Changelog
What changed on DevToolShelf and when. Each entry maps to a real change in the project repository, so this page doubles as the maintenance log for the site. Found a bug or want a tool added? Tell us.
New name: DevToolShelf
- DevUtils India is now DevToolShelf at devtoolshelf.com, because the tools are for developers everywhere. Every old address forwards to the same page on the new one, so bookmarks and links keep working.
- Every page now holds together on every screen size and zoom level, from a folded phone to a 4K monitor, and with large text. Reference tables scroll on phones instead of being cut off.
- Better colour contrast in both themes, keyboard access to every scrolling code block and table, and larger tap targets.
Typing tests for jobs and government exams
- The typing test now uses real passages with capitals, punctuation and numbers, reports gross and net words per minute, and checks the 5 minute result against the US federal clerk-typist standard of 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors.
- New 10-key test for the numeric keypad, scored in keystrokes per hour.
- New Hindi typing test in Unicode with Remington (GAIL), Remington (CBI) and InScript layouts, an on-screen keyboard and a hint showing the keys for the next word. No Hindi keyboard software is needed.
- New practice tests for the SSC CHSL typing and DEO skill tests, the RRB NTPC typing skill test and CPCT, each scored with the method published in the official notice, with the calculation shown after every attempt.
- Every result marks each mistake in the passage, can be printed, and is kept in a short history in your browser only.
- Fixed changelog dates showing one day early for visitors outside India.
Faster indexing in Bing
- Pages whose sitemap date changes are now submitted to IndexNow after each deploy, so Bing and other participating search engines hear about updates straight away.
Reference content rewritten for every tool
- All 23 tool pages now carry a full reference section: the underlying standard or RFC, how the tool processes input, edge cases developers actually hit, command-line equivalents and an expanded FAQ.
- Five guides (YAML vs JSON vs CSV, How crontab works, Text diff algorithms, Cryptographic hash functions, Preventing SQL injection) were missing from the pre-render list, so crawlers and non-JavaScript readers received the homepage instead. They are now served as static HTML like every other page.
- Guide pages now publish their real publication date in structured data instead of a single hard-coded date.
- Added this changelog and refreshed the sitemap.
Five more developer guides
- Published guides on YAML vs JSON vs CSV, how crontab scheduling works, text diff algorithms, cryptographic hash functions and preventing SQL injection.
- Repaired the unit test suite after the guides refactor.
Developer Guides section launched
- New guides portal with long-form articles on UUID versions, JWT security, regular expressions, CIDR subnetting and Base64 versus encryption.
- Fixed the guides page container width and grid alignment.
Static pre-rendering of every route
- Every route is now rendered to static HTML at build time so search engines and readers without JavaScript see real content and per-page metadata.
- Switched the build to a serverless-friendly Chromium so pre-rendering works on the hosting platform.
Learning content and accuracy pass
- Collapsible FAQs, callout boxes and cross-links between related tools on every tool page.
- Audited and corrected factual claims in tool descriptions and tightened the legal pages.
- Scroll position now resets when navigating between tools.
Homepage and layout fixes
- Homepage reworked so each tool is an individual clickable card grouped by role.
- Fixed a set of critical and medium UI issues across the site and moved the ad placement below the fold on short pages.
Search and social metadata
- Fixed the broken social preview image, weak Open Graph tags, Twitter metadata and the web app manifest.
- Resolved Search Console indexing issues reported in February.
File Formatter and Random File Generator
- Two new tools for QA work: a multi-format file formatter and a generator for dummy files of a chosen size and type.
Tool catalogue expanded to 22 tools
- Added the bulk of the current catalogue across backend, SDET, frontend, DevOps and data categories, with tests and per-page metadata.
- Refined the light theme for better contrast.
Initial release
- First public version with the core utilities, analytics, a PWA manifest and icons.
- Fixed navigation URLs, mobile layering and single-page-app routing on the host.
